Hair Transplant in Turkey

Hair loss is a problem that affects people not only physically but also psychologically.

When people begin to lose their hair, their self-confidence begins to decrease. Hair loss, which is a stress-filled process for both men and women, leads people to seek solutions to this problem. There are a number of treatment methods to slow the hair loss. The most effective of these are such as PRP and mesotherapy treatment methods, but these methods do not lead to new hair growth. It only prolongs the shedding rate of hair and lengthens the time it will go to baldness. Although there are hundreds of cosmetic products in the market, none of them offer permanent solutions to hair loss. The natural and only permanent solution of hair loss is hair transplantation.

Hair Loss and Causes

There are about 100,000 hair strands on a healthy head. In order to make hair loss is aesthetically noticeable, at least 50% of the hair in a certain area should be lost. In addition, hair loss causes the thinning hair and it also contributes to the appearance of hair loss. There are several reasons for hair loss: genetic factors, hormonal factors, poor eating habits, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, psoriasis, skin problems such as eczema, chemotherapy and some side effects of medicine, stress and depression can cause hair loss.

The most common type of hair loss in men and women is Androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is a condition that begins in the late twenties and thirties after post pubertal period, due to androgens and is primarily caused by the thinning of the hair line in the forehead and gradual thinning on top of head. It varies by race and age; For example, 96% of men in the white race are affected by this disease. On the other hand, in the black race, the incidence of this disease is 4 times less than the white race. 30% of 30-year-old patients and 50% of 50-year-olds are affected by this condition.

The Norwood Classification System classifies the severity of hair loss in men. At the beginning of the process (types 1-3), the hairline typically begins to retreat from the frontotemporal region (from the upper region of the forehead). At more advanced levels (type 4-7), hair loss progress gradually over the top (crown) and affects a larger area by participating in the shedding of the forehead area.As Turkey’s best hair transplantation center EsteNove, we’ll try to answer what you’ve wondered about hair transplantation.

What is Hair Transplant?

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles are taken from a spill-resistant area called the donor area and placed in the hairless area of the skin. Many people who are not familiar with hair transplant think that the hair transplanted to the hairless area will be poured like the original hair in this area and cannot grow again. But this is absolutely misinformation. The hair strands in the donor section (the hair that is close to the neck and between the two ears) are resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes hair loss. Because the transplanted hair follicles are resistant to DHT, they continue to grow in their new area, even if the undrawn wires around them continue to thin and shed. This is the main reason why hair transplant is permanent.

Hair transplantation consists of seven stages:

  • Consultation: After examining the hair loss of the patient, the operation plan is prepared, the number of hair follicles to be transplanted and the hairline are determined.
  • Preparation: Hair transplant area is sterilized and local anesthesia is applied.
  • Grafting: Hair grafts are harvesting from the donor area of the patient. Collected grafts are sorted out and stored until transplantation.
  • Grooving: Following the direction of the existing hair follicles, the channels are opened.
  • Transplantation: The grafts are placed in the receiving areas with caution to the hair angle.
  • Post-operative Operations: PRP treatment is applied for wound dressing and transplanted hair healing.
  • Post-operative Care and Hair Washing: Both the donor and the transplanted area will be sensitive for 15 days, so it is important to take extra care to the washing process.

Types of Hair Transplant

Hair transplant types are called differently depending on the methods and technologies used in graft harvesting and transplantation. Basically hair transplant types are divided into two as FUT method and FUE method. The FUE method is called with different names due to the different materials and methods used to harvesting hair follicles from the donor area. These are as Fue with sapphire tip (Sapphire FUE), FUE with Choi Implanter (DHI), Robotic FUE, U-Graft FUE, Percutaneous Hair Transplantation technique and may be many different names.

FUT (Follicular Unit Transportation):

FUT is a hair transplant method, which is performed with a thin strip of skin is removed, is also known as “strip”. Dermis is extracted from the back or sides of the head as a ribbon. The follicular units are then removed individually for transplantation to the hairless areas. FUT method is not preferred because of the success of FUE method which is widely used nowadays.

Sapphire FUE Hair Transplantation (FUE with sapphire tip):

In FUE hair transplant method, the hair follicles are taken one by one from the donor region under local anesthesia with micro-motors that diameters ranging between 0.6 – 0.7 – 0.8 mm and implanted in the bald area considering to hair shaft angle and direction. When using FUE hair transplant method performed with sapphire tips, instead of using steel scalpel (metal slit), special sapphire tips are used to open micro channels in the receiving area. Sapphire tips are designed to minimize the presence of scab and scars in the receiving area, to speed up the healing process, and to allow the opening of smaller and more sensitive micro channels. Sapphire FUE hair transplant method offers a very modern and superior method for hair transplant surgery.

Direct Hair Transplantation (DHI):

In contrast to other methods, Direct Hair Transplantation (Direct Hair Implant) does not require channel opening. The hair follicles are planted directly in the area using the Choi implanter, the patented DHI implantation tool. Doctors use this tool to give full control over the depth, direction and angle of each follicle. This method stands out with its success in unshaved hair transplantation.

Robotic Hair Restoration:

In robotic hair restoration method, a robotic system is used to extract hair follicles. This system uses follicular unit extraction / follicular isolation technique. The disadvantage of this technology is that the hair must be dyed before the treatment because the robot cannot see the white hair.

FUT is an old technique and requires a longer healing process in patients and also wound formation and pain is more. Hair transplantation with this procedure does not apply to most clinics throughout Turkey. Hair transplant Turkey clinics generally prefer FUE hair transplantation method or DHI techniques which have shorter healing time and leave fewer scars than FUT method.
