Does a Hair Transplant Stop Hair Loss

Does a Hair Transplant Stop Hair Loss? Today, millions of people, especially men, suffer from baldness and thin hair problems. Hair transplant, or called hair restoration, provides to restore hair growth. There are many effective treatments for baldness, but also there are many types of hair shedding. The patients can prefer hair restoration or other solutions like using a wig. Hair shedding and thinning can happen due to different reasons, such as age, genetic factor, or vitamin deficiency. When people decide to have the operation, they may think that their hair shedding will be stopped. So, does a hair transplant stop hair loss?

What exactly is the hair transplant?

A hair transplant is an aesthetical surgery that involves extracting hair follicles from a donor part of your scalp and transplanted them into the head’s bald area. The talented surgeons remove existing hair from the side and back of the head and then transfer into the hairless part. So, you can gain a fuller and thicker hair. Nowadays, there are two popular hair transplant methods; the FUE ( Follicular Unit Extraction) and the FUT ( Follicular Unit Transplant.)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):

The method is the most commonly preferred one. The surgeon uses a tiny punch tool to extract hair follicles from the donor area, and these are grafted the bald part of the head. There won’t remain any scar after the procedure in the patient’s head, and generally, stitches aren’t required. The operation takes a long time because each follicle is harvested one by one. For this reason, it can take between 4 and 12 hours. Besides, the patient may need more than one operation. Moreover, the persons who decide to have the surgery must have enough hair for the donor. If the patient’s head is entirely bald, taking skin from the chin, back or chest may be useful. On the other side, according to some research, taking follicles from the body or beard is more challenging than the scalp.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT):

The skilled surgeons extract a strip of skin from the donor area, generally from the head’s side and back. After that, a microscope is used to separate the donor part into small follicular units. These units are grafted into the bald area. The main difference from the FUE is that the surgeon obtains many follicles in one go. Therefore, the duration of the surgery will be shorter than the FUE technique.

If you have a receding hairline or hair loss and wish to gain your old healthy hair, the hair restoration can provide a potential solution for you. When you prefer the best-talented doctor, your hairline can be restored, and you can reach back the voluminous hair. However, the surgery is not a miracle treatment for the patients. Besides, you may not obtain full hair of head as you hope. For this reason, you need to have realistic expectations about the procedure. These two methods- the FUE and FUT- generally work, but hair transplant surgeries don’t stop hair loss for patients because it happens due to the DHT hormone; it is the main hormone that leads to baldness. So, hair shedding can repeat after the operation.

Most patients wonder whether hair transplantation can permanently stop hair loss. Unfortunately, the procedure does not offer it. It provides new hair follicles where you have already lost them, but it does not prevent the shedding in the non-transplanted area. However, there are many non-surgical methods to avoid hair shedding or make it less, such as anti-thinning shampoo, lotion, or PRP therapy.

PRP therapy ( Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections): PRP therapy for hair shedding is a three-stage medical treatment method. In the first stage, the patients’ blood is drawn. In the second stage, the blood is processed and finally injected into the scalp. According to some doctors, it triggers hair growth by increasing blood flow.

Hair transplant surgery cannot stop hair loss; you must know this before the surgery. However, the operation can be applied more than one times. For example, you have had a hair transplant operation, and your hair loss still continues. After 5-6 years, you can have a second hair transplant. There isn’t any exact number for the procedure.

– If your hair is sensitive to the DHT hormone, hair loss will continue after the hair restoration. For this reason, existing hair can get thinner while the new hair becomes thick and healthy. Your doctor can recommend using a DHT blocker.

– Your age may create hair loss. In this case, there is nothing you can do.

– Extreme stress creates hair loss.

– Your hair may lose because of nutritional deficiencies, such as folic acid, B12, iron, vitamin D. You should use dietary supplements with your doctor’s advice.

– A strict diet program may lead to hair loss. You need to take the dietitian advice.

– If you use too many hair products that involve chemicals, your hair will get thinner over time.

– Some medications and treatments, such as chemotherapy, can cause hair loss. There’s no way to prevent it is happening. Be patient until you get better. You will gain your hair again after a while.

One of the essential factors to reach success in the operation depends on the surgeon’s talents, skills, and experiences. If you chose the best doctor as far as possible, you would most probably get impressive, permanent, and great-looking hair. If you have already lost most of your hair, you can not probably reach the original hairline and voluminous hair as you wish. You should have realistic expectations based on the amount of hair you have. Also, the hair transplant operation doesn’t stop hair loss.

It does not create new hair follicles. It only is moved the existing hair from the donor area to the head’s bald part. On the other side, there is not any limitation on how many operations will be performed. When your hair loss continues after the surgery, you can prefer one more procedure. At this point, the quantity and quality of your donor area play a critical factor.
