Nine months ago, I took a life-changing step with a Sapphire FUE hair transplant. Today, the results speak for themselves.

FUE hair transplant results build gradually rather than appearing at once. Transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks, regrowth begins over the following months, and density continues to improve through the first year. You can browse further documented cases in our before and after gallery.

    What Is FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. Hair follicles are removed one by one from the donor area with a micro-punch and implanted into thinning or bald areas. Because no strip of scalp is removed, FUE requires no stitches and leaves no linear scar.

How Follicles Are Extracted and Implanted?

Each follicle grows at a different angle, so extraction must follow its natural direction to avoid damage. Grafts are then sorted by hair count: single-hair grafts for the hairline and multi-hair grafts for density.

During implantation, angle, direction and depth are planned graft by graft to match natural hair growth.

What Happens to the Donor Area?

The donor area is limited, so it must be protected during extraction. Grafts are taken evenly across the back and sides of the scalp to avoid visible thinning.

FUE leaves small extraction points rather than a linear scar. Once healed and covered by short hair, these points are usually difficult to notice. Over-harvesting can still create visible thinning, which is why donor planning matters.

    Graft Handling

Grafts are vulnerable between extraction and implantation. Time outside the body, storage conditions, temperature and handling can all affect graft survival, making this an important part of the procedure.

    • Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant in Turkey

Both Sapphire hair transplant and FUE hair transplant use the same procedures, but the uniqueness of Sapphire FUE is the use of sapphire tips instead of traditional metal slits at the channel creation stage. The channels are opened with a minimum incision, ensuring less crusting and providing faster healing. Moreover, sapphire tips allow accurate and close transplantation of hair follicles, thereby providing a natural look.

    Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant Procedure

    Minimum incision

    1. Consultation and Preparation

The surgeon discusses your requirements and finalizes the number of grafts and hairstyle. The hairline is marked, and necessary blood tests are taken.

    2. Local Anesthesia

The donor area is disinfected, and local anesthesia is used to numb the scalp. A pressure device may be used to minimize discomfort.

    3. Extraction and Opening Canals

Hair follicles are extracted individually using specialized tools, and canals for hair follicles are opened using sapphire tips.

    4. Implantation

The extracted hair follicles are transplanted into the recipient area using forceps over the course of a few hours.

Why FUE Remains the Gold Standard?

Comparing FUE with Other Hair Transplant Methods

    FUE vs FUT

    - FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles, leaving no linear scar, making it ideal for patients who prefer short hairstyles.
    - FUT, on the other hand, requires removing a strip of skin from the donor area, leading to a visible scar.
    - Recovery with FUE is faster, allowing patients to resume normal activities sooner, whereas FUT has a longer healing time due to stitches and a larger wound.

    FUE vs DHI

    - DHI is a variation of FUE, where extracted grafts are implanted using a Choi implanter pen.
    - DHI allows for more precise implantation and is often preferred for dense hairlines, but it is more time-consuming.
    - FUE provides more flexibility in donor area selection and is better suited for covering larger areas of baldness.
    - Read more about DHI and the Choi implanter pen.

    FUE vs Sapphire FUE

    - Sapphire FUE is an enhanced version of traditional FUE, where sapphire-tipped blades are used instead of steel to create implantation channels.
    - The sapphire blades help in minimizing tissue damage, accelerating healing, and achieving a more natural-looking density.
    - While Sapphire FUE offers better precision and healing, traditional FUE remains a highly effective and widely used technique.

In practice, FUE suits most patterns of loss, including hairline restoration, mid-scalp coverage and crown work, and it handles larger sessions more comfortably than more time-intensive techniques.

    Is FUE Right for You?

FUE works best when hair loss has settled into a recognisable pattern and the donor area can supply enough grafts to cover it. Most patients with stable male or female pattern loss are suitable candidates.

FUE is usually a good fit if you
    • have a defined pattern of loss rather than diffuse thinning across the whole scalp
    • have sufficient donor density at the back and sides of the scalp
    • prefer to wear your hair short, since FUE leaves no linear scar
    • need a larger session, or coverage across the hairline, mid-scalp or crown
    • want to avoid stitches and a longer healing period

FUE may not be the right first step if you
    • are still losing hair rapidly, where the final pattern is not yet clear
    • have hair loss caused by stress, illness, medication or a hormonal change, which may recover without surgery
    • have limited donor density relative to the area you want covered
    • have a scalp condition that needs treating first

None of this can be settled from photographs alone. A proper assessment checks donor density, scalp condition and how your hair loss is likely to progress, then confirms whether FUE is the right technique and how many grafts your donor area can sustainably provide. Frequently Asked Questions

    Frequently
    Asked
    Questions

Yes, it is. In FUE hair transplant, hair follicles are removed from the donor and placed into the recipient area. As a result, the results are natural, visible and long-lasting. A significant change in hair growth will be seen within a year in the transplanted area.

Contrary to this belief, FUE is usually performed under local anesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort during the procedure. Most patients report only mild discomfort during the healing process.

Although male pattern baldness is more common, FUE can also be an effective solution for women experiencing hair loss. It allows for precise graft placement, making it suitable for both genders. For guidance specific to female pattern loss, see our hair restoration for women page.

This concern usually comes from a misunderstanding of the healing process. Transplanted hairs commonly shed in the weeks after surgery — often called shock loss — before new growth begins. The follicles themselves remain in place. As regrowth comes through, coverage becomes progressively fuller and more even.

Most patients are back to everyday routines quickly, and the clinic performs a check and first wash before you travel home. Small scabs form around the implanted grafts and clear during the first days of healing, and some redness or mild swelling in the donor and recipient areas is normal early on.
Visible results take considerably longer than physical recovery. Early shedding is followed by gradual regrowth, with density continuing to develop through the first year. Your aftercare instructions matter most in the first weeks, when the grafts are still settling.

FUE is a well-established technique with a strong track record when it is properly planned and performed. Because the grafts are your own tissue, there is no risk of immune rejection. Outcomes depend on donor quality, how carefully grafts are handled between extraction and implantation, the experience of the surgical team, and how closely aftercare is followed.

For most patients today, FUE is the preferred option: it leaves no linear scar, healing is quicker, and it suits anyone who wears their hair short. FUT is rarely chosen now, though it can still be considered in specific cases where a very large number of grafts is needed in one session. The right answer depends on your donor area and how much coverage you need, which is what a consultation establishes.

The number of grafts required for a successful hair transplant varies based on individual needs and goals. Factors such as hair density, hair loss pattern, and the desired level of coverage play a crucial role in determining the number of grafts needed to achieve the desired results.

There is no fixed age limit, but timing matters more than age. Surgery performed while hair loss is still progressing quickly can look natural at first and less so as loss continues around it. Most surgeons prefer to wait until the pattern has stabilised. Suitability is assessed on hair type, the stage of hair loss and general health rather than on age alone.

Yes, we give a guarantee for after post-operative results, excepting health conditions or therapy that causes patients hair loss. In addition, patients should also follow the post-operative instructions given by the doctor.
