Is Al Pacino Bald?

Even the Best Ones

Is Al Pacino Bald? Hair loss is a result of the natural process of getting old, as independent from your qualifications or social status, race, etc. Since at least 1550 B.C., especially men have been looking for some kinds of cures of hair shedding to get rid of baldness. With the development of the methods called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) by Drs. Bernstein and Rassman, it is very easy to refresh one’s hair.

As the most implemented methods, FUE and FUT depend on using stereo-microscopic graft dissection to take follicular units from donor strips; this feature also makes them different from other methods. Today many people, both celebrities and regular, use FUE, FUT, various cosmetic treatments, or simply, a wig to cover alopecia. Surgeon Dr. Craig Ziering, who is very famous in the UK indicates, “There are so many celebrities who want to refresh their hair that they come to my office on a weekly basis.”

Although celebrities tend to hide their hair refresh procedures (either they would be hair transplant operations, cosmetics, or wigs), their old and current photos usually compromise them as well as expert dermatologists or fans’ statements. It could be said that celebrities utilize hair refreshment technology more and regular people, according to some sources, even some famous men who don’t have the shedding condition have hair transplants. Jude Law, Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Edward Norton, Hugh Laure, Ben Affleck, and Elton John are just a few examples.

Of course, it is not surprising to see how many celebrities get these surgeries done, when all the cameras surround them are considered; they have to keep their appearance to keep their self-esteem. However, it looks like it is also about some sort of a choice; some of them don’t even bother cosmetics, related treatments, surgeries. They just shave their heads, such as Vin Diesel and Bruce Willis; but some of them try to hang on their hair as long as possible, such as Al Pacino.

Legend with Full Head of Hair

Is Al Pacino Bald? Let’s take a quick look to memorialize who Al Pacino is and his great works for decades. If we had to define Al Pacino (Alfredo James Pacino in original) with one word, it would be probably a “legend”. He was born on April 25, 1940; since then, he took a lot of roles in different kinds of movies as an actor and filmmaker. His fame became rise with his first movie, “Me, Natalie” (1969) when he came at the age of 29.

However, without a doubt, he gained his wide acclaim and recognition with his breathtaking role as Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” series (1972, 1974 & 1990). His role was so good that after the series, “The Godfather” took place in “cult films” and the character Michael Corleone was regarded as one of the greatest in film history. Also, an Academy Award, two Tony Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards were not surprising after his great jobs.

For years, his hair also became an agenda topic from time to time; especially in the current state, a lot of people have been wondering how 80 years old man has this quite rich hair? Because the thing is, many of his colleagues (other greatest actors) from the film industry couldn’t keep their hair as much as he did, so what is his secret? Is his hair still fully natural or he has been making some touch-ups to his hair with different kinds of make-up techniques?

The answer is simple, he had hair loss just like any man could experience, but unlike other men, his hair shedding pattern is different. His balding area is behind his hairline, it can be seen from the front or some side views but mostly remains as one couldn’t realize without paying attention. In other words, his hairline hasn’t been affected by hair loss, so most of the time people tend to consider him as “man with a full head of hair”.

Despite Distracting Wigs

In this case, both answers above were right: yes, he has natural hair and he has been making these some touch-ups here and there. However, that is not the entire story, it might be surprising to hear but sometimes he uses wigs too. It appears that he has some wig collection, but it can’t be said that most of them look good. Due to his natural hair is thinner and people get used to his natural hair more, when he uses the wig, it looks mostly quite big and unnatural.

They are even considered as “distracting” sometimes; as examples, his hair in movies “88 Minutes” (2007), “Righteous Kill” (2008), and “You Don’t Know Jack” (2010) was evaluated as “disturbing and erratic” by some people. Of course, no matter how bad these “distracting” wigs were, his roles and performances in movies have never been in the second plan behind his hair.

Another thing we should keep that mind about him is, actually he is quite open about his hair loss or using hair wigs. In 2009, when he participated in a Tv show called “Inside the Actors Studio” (1994 – now), he admitted that he had a hair shedding problem that frequency or regain process changed from time to time. Still, as we indicated, he is not memorialized with these issues than his talent, roles, or charisma. Recently, he starred alongside Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019) as well as in Martin Scorsese’s Netflix film “The Irishman” (2019) with  Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

After these movies, his performance was evaluated as “glorious” by The Guardian, and Justin Chang, who is an American film critic and columnist for the Los Angeles Times wrote, “De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino are at the top of their game, in part because they aren’t simply rehashing the iconic gangster types they’ve played before.” Today, as an 80 years old man, Al Pacino has three children and a romantic relationship with Israeli actress Meital Dohan; and he is still chasing for his next great performances.
